They Work for Us!

On Monday I spent all day listening to New York legislature hearing on Covid_19. It was clear from the testimony that our elected leaders must get back to work ASAP to pass a robust measures to alleviate the devastation of the pandemic for all New Yorkers.

Yesterday, I delivered food to my many neighbors who are food insecure in our wealthy state. We did not have enough for all. It is clear that our elected leaders must get back to work ASAP to pass a robust measures to alleviate the devastation of the pandemic for all New Yorkers.

During the hearing we heard many calls for the ultra-wealthy to shoulder their share of the necessary revenue through an ultra-millionaires tax and other raising revenue measures. One senator, Gustavo Rivera, chanted “revenue revenue revenue” every time he spoke.

Now our New legislature must make this happen.

We hear our New York State Senate is headed back into session for a few days. They must use this time and expand this time if necessary to focus on Covid_19 recovery AND raising revenue.

And when will our New York State Assembly return to legislating?

In addition to Covid_19 recovery and raising revenue, our state legislature must work on solving the problems that contributed and worsened our current situation.

By empowering themselves to protect the New York state budget going forward — so there’s a balance of power between the legislature and executive branches!

By passing laws the protect our democracy and ensure sufficient measures are in place to enable voting in both the primary and general elections in 2020 and beyond!

Please call Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins, your state senator and Assembly Member today. Tell them you expect them to get back to the work of legislating NOW. That this should not be limited in time or scope. That this is the time to pass transformative law. That they work for us.
